'SHIBUI' 2016
Having had a year of reflection from their initial collaboration project in May 2015, Matthew and Sarah have continued to develop and share their practice. This has culminated in their most recent collaborative outcome in which they have worked with locally grown Burr Maple

They have explored various methods, crossing-over their practices. Such as, Sarah’s resist dye methods being applied to the timber through exploiting mark making with tools and scorching techniques. To Matthew using his craftsmanship skills in new ways to sculpt the wood and create work that is moving away from the more functional into expressing their current perceptions on interactions with the world and the resulting impact.

The Burr Maple work is about the structures in our lives and the desire for control in a naturally ungovernable, chaotic world.
Exploring ideas about conformity, imbalance and connection.
